BANKERS TUTORIAL · LEARN WITH A PLAN

JAIIB preparation: subjects, study planning and learning resources

Prepare for JAIIB with Bankers Tutorial: explore the four papers, eligibility, a practical revision plan, subject guides and published learning resources.

ORIGINAL STUDY GUIDANCE

Build a clear preparation plan.

JAIIB preparation works best when daily banking experience is connected to the ideas behind it. A familiar transaction may involve an economic influence, an operating procedure, an accounting entry and a customer decision at the same time. This Bankers Tutorial guide helps you organise those connections across the four papers, choose a manageable study routine and find relevant course information. Begin with the official syllabus, then use each subject guide to decide what you need to understand, practise and revisit.

Understand the qualification before choosing a course

JAIIB is open to eligible ordinary IIBF members, normally with a 12th-standard or equivalent qualification; the official rules explain limited discretionary exceptions. Its four papers are Indian Economy & Indian Financial System, Principles & Practices of Banking, Accounting & Financial Management for Bankers, and Retail Banking & Wealth Management. Read the current IIBF rules before registering. A coaching enrolment does not establish examination eligibility or replace registration with the examining institute.

Turn the syllabus into a working study map

Make one checklist for each paper. Next to every topic, record whether you can explain it, apply it to an example and answer a question without notes. These are different skills: recognising a term in a video is not the same as recalling its meaning under time pressure. Use short sessions for concepts and reserve uninterrupted time for numerical work. Keep a separate revision queue for mistakes that reappear.

  • Economy and finance: explain causes, institutions and relationships.
  • Banking practice: work through customer and branch scenarios.
  • Accounting: write the steps and check the arithmetic.
  • Retail banking: compare product purposes and customer needs.

Prepare for the examination format

The current rules describe an online, two-hour paper of approximately 100 objective questions for 100 marks, with no negative marking. Passing normally requires 50 in a subject; the rules also provide a single-attempt aggregate route with at least 45 in every subject and 50% overall. Practise the full paper with a timer after completing sectional work. Review incorrect answers and lucky guesses, rather than recording only the total score.

Build a repeatable week around your work

Choose a realistic study appointment you can protect on most days. Start each session with a few retrieval questions from the previous week, study one defined topic, then close the notes and explain it aloud. At the weekend, combine material from different papers in a small case. For example, trace how a business deposit is opened, recorded and used in the bank’s wider funding picture. This is an educational linking exercise, not an official examination question.

Select resources with a clear purpose

Use the linked subject pages for orientation, published course pages for teaching details, and the resource library for material that matches your syllabus. Before enrolling, check the course language, included papers, access period, delivery format and support arrangements on its actual detail page. Keep official subject updates alongside your notes so an older explanation can be reviewed when the relevant rules change.

Frequently asked questions

Should I study all four papers in the same way?

Use a common revision calendar but adapt the practice. Accounting needs written calculation steps, banking practice needs scenarios, and economic concepts benefit from explaining relationships in your own words.

Does joining a Bankers Tutorial course register me for JAIIB?

No. Course enrolment and IIBF examination registration are separate processes. Confirm your membership and examination eligibility directly with IIBF.

Where should a first-time learner begin?

Read the official syllabus, identify the least familiar paper and try a short diagnostic exercise in each subject. Build the first week around those gaps rather than collecting multiple sets of notes.
